The establishment of the WHS provides an occasion for reflecting on the history of the region. This book tells a story about the lives and experiences of people in the Drakensberg region from the earliest known times to the present. It will be of great interest to South African readers hungry for alternative voices to those of the colonial hunters, soldiers, "pioneers," mountaineers, and game rangers who dominate in most of the literature.
